Welcome to SUBB - Southampton University’s Brass Band! 

We are a group of enthusiastic and friendly students who meet every Sunday night! We play a very wide range of music, and the difficulty of our repertoire varies (sometimes significantly!) from piece to piece. We like a challenge! Throughout the year we perform in a number of concerts. One of the highlights of our year is competing at UniBrass, the national competition for university brass bands. We will be heading to Cardiff to compete in the trophy section in February 2026.

SUBB had a very successful year in the 2024-25 academic year under their new musical director, Kevin Smith. In February, the Band attended the annual Unibrass contest in Cardiff, where we competed for the very first time in the trophy section, and finished in a respectable 10th place. In June we held an impressive joint concert with Woodfalls Band, who are amongst the top 100 bands in the world, in Turner Sims where we formed a massed band of 65 players!

Rehearsals are 7-9:30pm on Sunday evenings in the the Veg Out Space (B42) during term time, and have a relative relaxed atmosphere. Any brass or percussion player is welcome (and encouraged!) to join us, however we do also hold auditions for our principal seats towards the start of the academic year. We also have plenty of socials throughout the year.
