Swallows (Football)
The Swallows are the ladies medics football team representing Southampton University. We are a friendly, sociable group and welcome all abilities from beginners to pros! The Swallows have a range of players from 1st year through to 5th year so it is also an excellent way to gain insight and advice. We have training sessions every Tuesday evening at Wide Lane and we also take part in a weekly local 5 a side league and regional NAMS league. In addition to this we have regular socials, Brighton Varsities, annual NAMS tournament, as well as our yearly European tour which is always a great time! As said above, we are a very friendly and welcoming group. We welcome all abilities, from complete beginners to Lionel Messi in his prime. The swallows also have a range of years represented, so it’s such a good way to get to know other medics in different years (many have very helpful words of encouragement + advice!!). We train every Tuesday evening and participate in a regional NAMS league - providing the opportunity to play other medical schools from across the country. We also participate in 5-aside matches every week, and are planning to participate in the new women's IM as of 2026/27. In addition, we have an annual varsity with Brighton and Sussex Medical School, which is guaranteed to be an exciting day full of football and then a joint social.
On our committee, we have three tour secs that will organise a fabulous getaway for our wonderful swallows (the location of which is top secret until we leave). This is an annual tradition that is always a fantastic time for team building and an escape from the demands of medicine. Our social secs also organise weekly Saturday socials, which are an excellent opportunity to get to know other swallows, unwind from the world of medicine, and even see some of the best that Portswood has to offer (aka Jesters). But don't worry we also have lots of exciting events throughout the year to fill up your calendar.
If you want to try out the swallows and get involved, we would LOVE to have you along. Feel free to bring your friends and give football a go. We are a lovely group of girls and can't wait to welcome some new Swallows!
